Dog and Throne

Dog & Throne is a husband and wife run grooming salon in Bishop Auckland, owned by us, Matt and Lisa. We wanted to create somewhere that felt a little different from a traditional grooming salon, with a calm atmosphere, unrushed appointments and a real focus on the dog in front of us. We offer professional dog grooming alongside a range of specialist skin, coat and wellbeing treatments, and we’re always happy to talk through what your dog actually needs rather than simply offering the same thing to everyone.

We deliberately don’t pack our diary with as many dogs as possible. Having more time for each appointment means we can get to know your dog, work at a pace they’re comfortable with and give them a bit of a break if they need one. We also invest heavily in our products, equipment and ongoing training, so there’s a lot more behind what we do than simply giving your dog a haircut. We want owners to feel completely comfortable leaving their dog with us and to know they’re being properly looked after while they’re here.

We take a calm and patient approach and try not to force a dog through something simply because the appointment says it needs doing. We’ll give them time to settle, let them have a break when they need one and adjust how we work depending on the individual dog. Their comfort and wellbeing will always come before getting a perfectly finished haircut. We’re also very open with owners, so if we notice anything unusual with your dog’s skin, coat, ears, teeth or general condition while they’re with us, we’ll let you know.

Before we book your dog’s first groom, we’ll invite you both in for a free Meet & Treat. It gives your dog a chance to have a look around, meet us and get used to the salon without any grooming taking place. It also gives us time to chat about your dog, their grooming history, what you’d like from us and anything you think we should know. There’s no pressure to book afterwards. If you feel we’re the right fit for you and your dog, we can then look at appointments together.
