Harvey's Pet Grooming

Harvey’s Pet Grooming is an independent grooming salon in the heart of Carnforth, established in 2021. What started as a small grooming room rented inside a local kennels quickly grew, and later that year Harvey’s moved into its own dedicated salon on Market Street – coincidentally directly opposite the newsagent my parents ran in the 1970s! Today, Harvey’s offers professional dog and cat grooming in a friendly, relaxed environment, with appointments tailored to the individual needs of each pet. Services include full grooms, bath and de-shed treatments, hand stripping, puppy introductions, cat grooming, nail trimming and ultrasonic teeth cleaning. We’ve invested in professional equipment and products to provide a high standard of care, but Harvey’s has deliberately remained a small, personal business. You’ll know who is looking after your pet and we get to know our regular customers – both the two-legged and four-legged ones! Harvey’s has been named Best Pet Grooming Business in Lancashire at the England Business Awards, won Small Business of the Match with Liverpool FC and VistaPrint, and has also been featured in Total Grooming magazine and on BBC Radio Lancashire.

Harvey’s isn’t a production-line grooming salon. I work one-to-one, allowing me to give each dog my full attention and adapt the groom to the individual in front of me. Welfare always comes first. I want a beautiful finish, but never at the expense of a dog’s wellbeing. If they need a break, we take one. If something is causing genuine distress, I won’t simply force them through it. I’m particularly happy to work with nervous or anxious dogs and believe that trust is built over time. Seeing a dog who was once frightened of grooming gradually become comfortable walking through the salon door is one of the best parts of my job. I also believe in being straightforward with owners – good communication and a long-term relationship make for happier dogs and better grooms.

I believe a great groom starts with understanding the individual dog. At each appointment we'll discuss the style you'd like, your dog's coat, lifestyle and any health or behavioural considerations before we begin. I work one-to-one, so your dog has my full attention throughout their appointment. I use professional equipment and quality products, and tailor everything from bathing and drying to the finished style to suit the individual dog. I'm a perfectionist, but I'm also realistic. Sometimes the haircut a coat or a dog can comfortably manage isn't quite the one we originally planned! I'll always put welfare first and explain any decisions I make. Most importantly, I want dogs to leave Harvey's looking fantastic, feeling comfortable and hopefully quite happy to come back and see me again
